I am trying to fix a relatives Acer Aspire 6930G laptop as it recently developed a power problem, try to turn it on and it simply dies. After much poking about in its innerds I found the falty component, a 12 pin flat cable which connects the motherboard to the soft key strip along the top of the unit. Removed the cable and the problem was fixed, except WiFi didn't work. Simple, get a spare cable. How hard could it be?

Well, a week or two later I'm still without a replacement. It looks like I can get one from a well known online auction site, but it comes attached to bits I don't need. I can do this but can any one suggest an outlet where I can get just the cable?

It would be a shame to buy a dongle when the internal WiFi still works (if the cable is replaced). If it comes to that then I'd get the online auction part and strip the unrequired bits off it.

This is probably the only way. Just think of the extra bit as spare parts ;).

Seems a bit weird though, I guess Acer made the attennas for the wifi part of the cable, they're usually seperate from other wires.

I think that the cable only turns the WiFi or off via a switch on the key strip (default is off). I can't find a way to use the software to turn it on. The antenna are around the screen like every other laptop. Looks like I'm too get some spares then.
