How in the hell did I miss this monitor!!!?? Just linked to news about the new LG 144hz UW screen and this was just below it;

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/35.htm#lg.display_144hz

Well, if you're looking for something a little bigger than 34" UW then this indeed may be an option (although the AR has changed slightly) :D

I expect it's about 5/6 months away and that they'll produce a Gsync one too

Noice foind :D

The big Acer has nearly the perfect specs for my tastes. It'd be perfect if it goes up to 100hz but I don't think it's possible with freesync. Maybe a gsync version too? v0v

As for th LG panels, was about time to see new UW panels. Wait, we'll see them prolly in one year so..... dang you're late. Let's hope they behave properly and are not just another test version to be tested upon customer's wallets.

1440 has always been a bit short to me, so 1600 would be pretty cool. However, 21:9 support is still maturing, let alone support for something even less common.

Sticking with my X34 for the forseeable future but no doubt that this is an almost perfect resolution.

Little interest in that 144Hz monitor seeing as most modern games struggle to push past 100fps even with SLI.

I just got a tweaktown email highlighting this monitor, I think I'd be happier if it was simply 3440x1440. Doesn't that res scale correctly? I read something like that when they first release the 34" models.

Actually this link does not give 100% accurate impression, since XR382CQK is not 21:9. Its 2.4:1 (24:10) - meaning its even more "squashed" vertically and more of diagonal increase goes into horizontal increase than vertical.

That's really not that big of a difference:

3440/1440= 2.39 with a dot pitch of 0.231
3840/1600= 2.40 with a dot pitch of 0.229

As regards scaling, that's a more concerning issue especially seeing how some brand new games still lack in 21:9 support, so I'm not sure how they'll adopt all those fancy ratio like this one too. Scaling from 3440x1440 to 3840x1600 could be a bit meh since it's not even the same proportion vertically and horizontally. Dunno really.

Most games would just run a custom 21:9 equivalent res with tiny black bars you wouldn't notice.

Others will support completely custom res and be ok.

Others will fail but they will probably be the ones that won't work properly at 21/9 anyway

The tiny difference is ratio is unlikely to change the compatability this screen has, if a game supports Ultrawide this screen will be no exception. 1080p Ultrawide isn't actually the exact same ratio as 1440p either and that has never caused any problems.

What I'm saying is that you don't buy a monitor like this one to play at 3440x1440 scaled up, as much as you don't get a 3440x1440 to play a 2560x1080 scaled up. The difference is not that huge of course but it's still +20% of real estate in terms of pixels, so if the games won't have 3840x1600 as supported res you only can rely on workarounds or play at 3440x1440, which implies the use of the scaler so.... we'll see.

Any game that can run in ultra wide should run fine. I am currently running 3840 x 1600 on my large screen tv and it runs fine, in fact even wider ratios like 3840 x 1080 work, i tried this on a few titles.

This - unless a game is utterly borked if it supports Ultrawide as a concept it doesn't matter what resolution it is.

Sorry to bump a year old thread. I’ve been looking at this monitor and a couple of different online retailers sell 2 versions. One at £1250 and one at just under £1000. But the specs read exactly the same (aside from 1ms vs 5ms response time). Does anyone own this who could shed some light? The Acer UK website only shows the one costing £1250.

They've got the resolution wrong in their specs, def call them to double check it's the right model before buying.
