See quite a bit about this game and am possibly interested but was confused by the naming - which is the current version, is it Aces High II? Does anyone here play it?

At the moment I sometimes fly in WWIIOnline but the flying game isn't fantastic in that, was looking for maybe something better.

I used to play this LOTS, its pretty good. Great fun flying a B-26 on a bombing run with some mates in the back gunning for you. The flight model isn't too bad, don't expect it to be arcadey though - it DEFINATELY is NOT.

I once remember flying back from a run in a B-26 with half a wing and a tail fin missing thanks to some nasty fw-190. My friend was in the top turret shooting at some 109's which were trying to take us down, I managed to loose them by flying down a very deep canyon ridge. Landed the plane in the end! personally the best moment of any flight sim tbh. There was me piloting, chatting on the channel to my gunner over VoIP and then a couple of spitfire's (flown by US players) escorted us back, all nattering over the radio. It was great :D

Another time I took off from a carrier in a Seafire III to try and protect the carrier-group. I remember taking off, slapping on WEP to try and get some height then getting pounced by three fighters. Managed to down 2 of them and get one smoking :D then landed back on the carrier with only a fuel leak! woooo.

There is quite a steep learning curve, don't expect to get any kills quickly. I'm not particularly good at the game but sometimes the adrenaline gets going and you get lucky (like above).

The community is really quite good too.

Very good game, hard to learn, although you never actually stop learning. As overlag has said, it doesnt seem to be working atm :( I wanted to fly this morning.

If you decided to play it, my ingame name is UNIstut and I fly with the 56th FG 62nd Fighter squadron, We mainly fly the P47. I'm normally found in the 2 late war arenas. You're welcome to come and fly with us and learn the basics, although you probably know a bit from WW2OL.

Overlag, what is your ingame name?

I'm having a terrible time atm getting kills, out of 6 sorties, I got one kill :( and that was luck.

Most of the AH community are nice people, you just get some arsey people that like to talk smack, but everyone ignores them.

sounds interesting.

But the site dont work.

No, seems to be down atm, happened the other evening too. Hopefuly it'll be sorted soon though, HT and crew are nomally spot on.

Your flying P47's :) get back to low-level bombing stuff :D

I dont really enjoy bombing any more. I used to love it. P47s are what I mainly fly, that is what a lot of my kills are in from previous tours. I think im just going through a bad spell.

I don't think I've actually ever flown the P47 for any reasonable length of time. The Spitfire was my favourite although I found it didn't carry enough ammo for my liking (despite cannons, spray and pray :D) so I switched to the Hurricane then found that was quite outclassed (imo - I did used to play in the "everything" arenas though). So finally I switched to mainly bombing, dive bombing carriers, torpedo bombing, heavy bombers etc.

I love this game. Always get hooked on it for a couple months a year.

Nothing better that crusing the skies and dive bombing people in a Spitfire V :D

Dog fighting on this game can be seriously intense. I've been in engaged in dog fights lasting 30 minutes before!

Nothing better than splashing 10 bogies and then landing your plane back at home base with battle scars intact!

I like AH a lot more than IL-2. To be honest, I have never really got along with IL-2 but that may be because I have been playing AH for quite a while. It just feels strange because the flight models and gunery are so different.

If you want to try AH, just go onto the website and download it, you get a 2 week free trial, you dont even have to give any credit card details for that 2 weeks. If you enjoy it fill in the details, if you dont, just uninstall the game. The cost of AH is $15 a month, which works out around £7.50-£8.00 at the moment.

It has some parallels with WWIIOnline, the major differences I would say is that in AHII you have a much wider selection of planes, but in WWIIOnline you feel more immersed with the ground game and therefore the overall objective.
