Acess denied trying to look at notepads on hd.

Ive installed windows 7 on a new hard disk and now when i try to open notepads on older dirve it says access denied.. this is maddening, anything i can do?

right click and take ownership of the files, usually best done at the folder containing them.

didnt work still getting message. I can log on as administrator using this method...

First right click on Computer, choose Manage, go to Local Users and Groups --- Users, double click on Administrator account, uncheck Account is disable to enable it.

Then reboot the computer, keep press F8 key, choose Safe Mode, logon Administrator account.



And i can get access to the files. but then i have two accounts. Its maddening.

It's permissions related, taking ownership and changing permissions should work.

1) take ownership
2) right click file properties, security
3) set ur account to have full access to the file.

^Edit the permissions from the account you do have access from.
