Achievements - Do you care?

When I was younger I was a bit of a completionist, especially in MMOs. I wasted so much time getting pointless badges but now I can't be bothered and would rather spend the time doing something more interesting.

Fluff. An easy way for developers to bulk out their game with non-content. 50% of them you get for just playing the game how you would play anyway. Hardly achieving much there. The other 50% are so arbitrary I don't see how you're achieving anything either, this is were the non-content comes in as it essentially entails redoing the same content over and over using ever so slightly different methods.

I'd feel sorry for the people who go chasing such pointless tripe, but in doing so they're only reinforcing the existence of this **** and letting the developers get away with an ever thinner substance to their games. So they're all scum and I hope they stub their toes. All of their toes.

I don't mind them if they don't intefere with normal gameplay, an example would be when Halo 3 released if you played in the ffa playlist you'd have multiple people that wouldn't play properly to get the Mongoose splatter or the Vehicle boarding one. I'll let you splatter me if I can splatter you.

Ive never ever cared about this in any game. Just dont see the point of it. I just play the game and disregard all of that.

Remember Just Cause 2?
You have unlocked 2/1000000000000000000000 acheivements
5/1000000000000000000000000000000000000 trillion locations discovered.

Occasionally I aim for an achievement or two but really I just hate them for couple of reasons. The main problem is that game developers are sometimes designing games with achievements in mind and it can simply lead to inferior game. I've seen a game developer mention that there's no quick saving in the game he's developing because some achievements would be too easy to achieve using quick saves. What a load of ****. Give me the quick save option, drop the achievements!

Also WoW was ruined by achievements. Our raid group ended up spending more time trying to gather some raid achievements than actually trying to proceed to harder bosses.

They are useful in Civ and FM as they have made me play them in different ways, as a way to pad out a terrible game though I despise them

I have to agree here, I've replayed Civ on the xbox from different starts, I dont "care" for achievements, but in some games I enjoy I find myself attempting the achievements as i see them as a goal and they prolong the life sometimes, I dont really like the inclusion of multiplayer achievements, the ones you have to get by playing online etc.

Outside of Everquest, Diablo and World of Warcraft? No.

In those? Well, I'm usually a few days behind people as I spend time chasing achievements. :p

Absolutely zero, a pop up telling me what I just did does not content make or better a game.
I find that some people absolutely do care about them, I find in most cases from my experience when I check their ages it's usually the younger generation who are used to games having them.
