Acid attacks

The government needs to stop swinging it's wrecking ball of cuts at the police force, it can't keep relentlessly cutting personel and money - whilst expecting things to stay the same, let alone improve.

No bobbies on the beat, no community engagement, turning a police force from a central pillar of the community, into a force that rushes from job to job with no slack whatsoever, no real dealings with the community whatsoever, where everything is running at 100% 24/7 - I think is going to lead to much bigger problems.

Of course - some people might say "how can you blame the government/police, for people who throw acid in someone's face?" for me as our core frontline services deteriorate, the effects of that deterioration ultimately filter downward into society, of course the person throwing the acid is to blame - but what's enabling that person to get to such a state of moral and lawless disorder - where this is something they feel they need to do, or can do?

With less police on the beat, there's more work for them to do, that leads to queues and priorities - where things get left out, people start getting away with things when they really shouldn't - that creates more criminals and it emboldens existing criminals - for example in the stupid announcement a few weeks back, where Notts police announced they won't investigate shoplifting where the value is less than £200 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42492488 - "If I can nick £200 worth of stuff, what else can I get away with?" Things like this seem like great ways to create more crime, not prevent it.

If you have an ministerial layer which is fundamentally incompetent and cares only about meeting it's financial commitments, then things are going to get bad.

yeah you can't ban sulfuric acid, its way to useful.
besides there are plentty of other dangerous chemicals that can do loads of damage if you started throwing it in peoples faces.

One stupid thing the govt/home office have done is to prevent police from following criminals on mopeds (at speed), in case the criminals fall off and hurt themselves.

So whilst acid has become the weapon of choice, mopeds have become the getaway vehicle of choice, as the police are risking their own careers if they follow you.

Why does anyone care if these guys fall off and kill themselves? Shouldn't be trying to evade the police, should they? If it were me I'd be deploying stingers and trying the pit manoeuvre on them :p Scum. Dead scum is nobody's loss.

Yes it's totally crazy, it's almost as though health and safety legislation has gone totally off the rails, I'm all for innocent until proven guilty and giving anybody suspected of crime a fair trial, but practically making it public knowledge, that moped riders won't be pursued if they do certain things (drive off at speed / remove their crash helmets) it's just a stupid thing to do.

It's pretty ridiculous, I was attacked in June by two guys on a moped after my phone on Goswell road, seconds later another two on pushbikes, I managed to keep hold of my stuff and made it to Shoreditch police station, reported it, etc, etc - it's been 7 months not a single reply from the police, no phone call, email - nobody got in contact with the company where I worked (security camera outside) when I reported it, the police were so overstretched they were almost incapacitated by workload.

Last Tuesday night on my way back from Lidl I was approached by a guy absolutely off his head on what I can only imagine was amphetamine of some sort, after literally 5 minutes of him squaring up to me trying to everything he could to get me to fight him, he told me he was going to stab me to death and kill me right there and then - I stayed in plain sight and called the cops, this went on for 6 minutes - to my amazement the girl on the 999 call had managed to focus the CCTV camera on me and captured the whole thing, whilst I was talking to her - whilst dealing with this maniac, eventually he went for me properly into a full blown assault - the most aggressive encounter I've ever experienced or even seen in real life, thankfully I managed to overpower him and he ended up in the fetal position on the pavement for a few moments, before making good his escape . thankfully I was unharmed.

The cops turned up about 40 mins later despite it being an emergency call, gave a statement, I was worried that my defence might have caused me some problems initially, but due to the fact he followed me down the street for 50yds almost to my flat, and they had almost 10 mins of footage of this - I probably wouldn't experience any problems with the defence side of things, it's been a week and I've heard absolutely nothing from anyone, nobody called, no letters, emails, crime number - nothing... The whole thing was pretty damn scary to be honest.

With two nasty experiences in one year, I thought "just unlucky" but then only last week my friend got mugged at knifepoint and they stole her moped.... so yeah...

Police are very active in the area where I live. That's because a vigilante group has sprung up, a group of blokes have taken it upon themselves to patrol their neighbourhood and approach anyone out late at night wearing hoodies and snooping around houses and cars.

Obviously this is a terrible thing and police are looking to clamp down immediately. They absolutely do not want competition.

What counts as 'at speed'?

My borough is in the top 3 for moped enabled crime (Camden) and our local police have been pretty good at chasing them down and using a variety of methods to stop them (new police motorbikes, stingers, pavement furniture, air support). I've seen a few pursuits myself that I'd consider to be 'at speed'.

Its such an evil crime that needs to be stamped out as a priority, we need a special prison for these people where real punishment is the focus and it needs to be whole life.

As for that one recently who apparently got the wrong person, the Judge even reduced his sentence because "he's not a danger to the public".

Just how on earth are you not a danger if you are capable of pre meditating something to evil, cruel and vile and actually going through with it, even if it wasn't mistaken identity I would still say such about it.
