hello, are these worth the asking price?

can i connect my ASUS Xonar DX, PS3 and iphone at the same time? does it come with cables? what inputs does it have? can i swtich between the devices?

They're one of the highest rated sets of 'pc' speakers. As far as I know they only have one input though. If you want to connect all 3 at once you might be better looking second hand hi-fi.

They have three inputs.

One for left channel, one for right channel, and one for both which mutes the other two when connected.

Second hand hi-fi remains the best option by far. I own a pair of aego M's and they are certainly worth the money but don't compete with a proper amp and speakers.

A set of nearfield powered studio monitors are great for using on a PC. A little dearer but leagues ahead in the sound department.

But then you won't have the visceral ultra-low frequency delivery of a sub, which is something you'll miss if the PC also performs gaming/home cinema duties.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of nearfields - in fact, I'm looking to upgrade to nearfields [probably Dynaudios] from Aegos at some point this year; I just know that they'll have to be more than 'a little dearer' in order to be a justifiable upgrade rather than a different set of compromises.

I take your point about more than a little dearer but a good sub sat 2.1 monitor setup will ne a much better sound IMO.

I have M Audio LX4's which are not that dear and sound fantastic, they can also be upgraded to full 5.1 with matching speakers.

Also have some Tannoy Reveals but the bass is a little weak as you suggested minus a sub. Very good midrange though.

I just got some aego m's myself to replace the logitech z4 2.1 setup.

Much better, although i cant say ive ever heard real top quality hifi sound (something id love to) but these are pretty fantastic tbh...

although im starting to regret a lot of my lower quality music collection :p cd's are clearly still the way forward

That's my problem as my father has Meridian kit and it's amazing. His spare kit is audiolab with Kef Reference speakers. I asked for the Kef speakers as a moving in present when I moved into my house last year - he said no :(

I too have been mulling about speakers and things. Been thinking of getting a 2nd hand NAD amp with bookshelf speakers.

yeh, i dont see any point in getting pure hifi stuff for pc though..? maybe im wrong in saying that but i imagine it to be much better with all the hifi setup seperately with cd?

I do love these aego m's for my music on the pc, i just wish i had a cd collection :(

You might be surprised at the quality possible from a PC with a good soundcard.

I have an EMU0404 feeding my M Audio LX4's or Tannoy Reveals and the sound is very very good with lossless ripped CD's.

The only thing with monitors is they are very flat and do not tolerate bad recording's very much.

Sitting in the sweet spot on my setup gives a very wide and deep soundstage with great seperation and scale, but hey we all hear things differently..............:)

Just to qualify this, I have had nore amps, players, decks and speakers than I care to remember. That includes Kef, Meridian, MF, Audio Lab, Heart, various valve kit and some pretty esoteric speakers.

I find the practicality of my PC setup great. It does not better my main hifi but the difference is not night and day as some people would have you believe. The quality of the ripped media is very important though.

looking to buy these speakers myself (aego M)

i'm upgrading from a Panasonic Hi-Fi unit (nothing fancy - model number is SA-PM01) It sounds great, but its getting long in the foot now, and the bass and just volume (before it desorts) itsn;t what it used to be.

Will these Aego M be better?? or would i be better of buying a Xonar

cheers
