How do I connect the speakers to the soundcard?

I've tried the lead from the front of the subwoofer under the volume control straight into the optical out of the x-fi but it doesn't work.

Do I need to connect from the left, right, centre on the rear of the sub?

I'm away from home for a while so I can't just try it atm and it's buggin me! :)

The connection under the volume control is a headphone socket.

Use the left right on the back.

i think you will find that the connection under the volume is NOT a headphone socket . its for plugging stuff in like MP3 players

yeah thats right, i got told it was a headphone socket at first  was quite upset when i plugged my headphones in

Right back at home now and just tried the other lead plugging it into the left/right on the speaker and line out 3 on the card and it STILL doesn't work. It doesn't work if I plug the lead into any of the slots in the x-fi card?!

The speaker works with an mp3 player by plugging into the front socket but I can't get the pc to play through it ...

Your Aego's will have wires from both speakers going into the back. Then from the left/right it will have another wire set which then fits a mini-jack thing and would go into a soundcard for example.
