Acquiring Netword Address...

Hi there,

I have two desktop computers (both running Windows XP SP3 32-bit)

Virgin broadband setup:

Virgin cable modem is connected to a WGR614 Wireless Broadband Router via the ethernet link.
This router is then connected to the nearest PC via an ethernet cable (wired), able to use internet without any problem.

The other PC located in the room nearby has installed a Netgear WN311B Wireless PCI Adapter on my desktop (using Windows XP).

Problem
I tried to connect (wireless) to the router, it ask for password (which I set on the router), I enter the password, it says 'Acquiring Network Address' forever but it doesn't connect. I tried the same PC to connect to my neighbour's wireless network and it works fine, so I'm beginning to think its not the adapter/receiver but the router's problem?

Any idea how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance

- try turning the router on and off first, simple but ud be surprised!

- if that fails check that your wiresless card hasnt got a static ip assigned to it in its network properties.

- next i would try removing the security from your router, if it connects then apply the next level of security up (ie wep, then wpa, wpa2 etc etc). I had this issue in my office because some of the network cards werent compatible with wpa2

- last step is to give up and pull a cat5 cable through your wall from the pc to the router. :)
