acronis - explained..

Hi there,

I hear a lot about acronis but have never used it.

I do fresh operating systems for myself and friends as and when necessary and wondered how acronis could help me?

I check out their website and despite reading how great it is as backing up I did not quite understand its other features.

Like is it true, I can use it to backup all programs and files before I begin to reinstall and after my reinstallation is complete I just run the backup from acronis?

Clarification would be appreciated

i think it's better to use it once you have the os/drivers/windows updates/programs installed...then take a backup of the system.

I use it for ghosting a fresh windows install. I install windows and drivers and apps and do all configuring.

I then use Acronis to ghost the whole partition with normal compression. I make a recovery DVD.

Now when I need to reinstall windows for any reason. I boot the recovery DVD and use Acronis to write the ghost partition back on to drive. When I boot into windows again. I have my nice new fresh windows complete with drivers and apps.

The whole process from start to finish for a reinstall takes about 20mins

It takes a full snapshot of the PC that you create an image of. Not sure the impact of installing this image file on another PC mind but it prob would cause conflicts.
