So I picked up a cheap IDE harddrive to dump backup images on and a copy of Acronis as it came highly recommended on here.

Anyone have any ideas why every image (full backup) I create shows as corrupt when I try to validate it, be it either by Acronis in XP or via the boot CD.

Another thing is that backing up a fresh install of XP + drivers takes about 9 gig but the backup file creation is done in under 2 minutes and the file size is around 3 gig, surely a sign that something is a little wrong?

Anyway all my attempts of creating a valid backup file has failed, for the record Im backing up from 2 SATA drives in Raid 0 to a IDE drive, it's a Nvidia SATA device, anyone shed any light on why they are all corrupting?

* Just tried to create a full backup file from the boot CD, (booting off acronis disk to put windows out the equation) corrupts there also.
* chkdsk on all drives is clear.

Computers, why can't they just work.

Never had this problem myself. That's a real unknown as I too have an done this on an nVidia chipset. Have you tried updating your build version of Acronis? Further, I would uninstall it and reinstall it completely. Burn a new boot CD too.

A fresh intall of XP for me and drivers = 9GB on the drive roughly too and the file created is about 3GB - this is just the compression. Your backup archive will always be smaller than the amount backed up.

Thanks for the info smids, I ran memtest overnight and it had a few errors by morning so I'm guessing thats my problem. Gonna get the ram stable then hopefully it will work fine.

Used to get 'corrupt' images when I did validate on an older build version of True Image. But image would be OK exploring/mounting & even on restoring
