I'm trying to restore a drive from True Image 11 on Vista Home Premium. However, when it reboots to start the process, it halts with the following error:

Kernel panic : vfs : unable to mount root fs on 01:00

Google suggtest this is a problem with a non-standard OS but obviously this isn't the case. Any idea how I can solve this?

If not, is it possible to do a complete manual copy of my drive using the backup?

Many thanks

are u running the restore from within windows vista, if so the create a boot disk for acronis then boot that up from boot up to restore the image onto the c: drive "do not go into windows to do this", yes u can browse acronis images within windows.

Hi

Yes I am running from within Windows - I will try a boot disk. Thanks

I know you can browse the backup files, but I was wondering how I would copy a whole drive when most of the files will already be in use.

if u have 2 hdd in your system just backup to your second hdd. no need to buy a external usb box with a hdd.... as said above don't backup/restore windows partition within windows. u can backup/restore other drives within windows because they are not the system/active partition...

Acronis doesn't do the process within Windows, it does it in the pre-boot stage when nothing is loaded. The boot disk is for if you can't get into any OS to do it via that. I don't know what the OP's problem is but it's not that.

Well I tried the boot disk and got a different error. Most of my back up files, which are stored on an external drive, won't be loaded as they are either not valid archives or are corrupt, yet I can happily browse through them in Windows. Unfortunately, this includes the one I need!

I've only ever used True Image for restoring the odd file, never a complete drive so I've never seen this before.

So? You don't need to be outside of Windows or use a boot disk for that.
are you asking or saying??

it sounds like part of the backup file is corrupted...

is the file ".TIB"??

Yes it's TIB. When I did try to restore from within Windows, it didn't report any errors about it being corrupt - only on reboot.

Can I restore manually by copying the files? I know how to extract files from a TIB, but don't know how to get around the problem of copying Windows files that wll be in use.

try in safe mode.. or have u tryed using the boot disk media then manualy copy the files?

I always run acronis from a cd boot up disc, done that LOTS off times, I see no need to do it in Windows, as your having problems in windows then do use acronis from the boot disc!

I can't use Acronis from the boot disc as all the TIB files only seemed to ne recognised in Windows.

I'll see if safe mode allows me to copy the files.
