Hope this is useful...
I just bought Acronis True Image 9 and installed and registered it. It showed as v9, build 2302.
I then found an upgrade on the website to build 2337 which I downloaded and installed (trueimage9.0.2337_s_en.exe). Following the FAQ on the website support page, I did not uninstall build 2302 before running the upgrade.
But when I started True Image and clicked "Help, About" the message still showed build 2302. Also, right clicking TrueImage.exe in the installed folder also showed build 2302 on the Version tab.
I contacted Acronis and received the following reply:
"This is a known issue of the newer builds of ATI not being able to update
the older ones. As for now, please suggest this customer to uninstall the
build he has and install the newer one from a scratch - after that he'll be
able to install newer builds as recommended - by installing them over the
existing one. It has turned out to be a complex problem which is difficult
to fix so the builds older than 2315 should be uninstalled prior to
installing the newer ones. As I've already said - the newer builds update
each other without any problems."
This has worked OK. But the seriial number has to be re-entered when the new build is installed from scratch.
