I'm toying with the idea of reinstalling Windows 7 to see if anything is corrupted, as I have a couple of minor problems. True Image has been mentioned to me as it's a simple way of backing up my system and restoring it without the need to reinstall individual apps and games. I need to make a True Image backup of my C drive (my OS drive) and save the compressed file to my E drive. I've got 174GB of files to backup. The only problem I can see is that if I do a fresh install of Windows 7 and then restore my backup, the old (possibly corrupted) OS will also overwrite the fresh OS installation won't it? So that means that assuming the fresh install of windows works better and I don't want the old OS backup any more, I'll then have to manually reinstall all my programs and games so that I don't restore the old OS, in other words, I can't do a full restore of my True Image. Is that correct?

If you make a backup of your system, then restore it from the backup image it will be restored from the time you made the backup including os, applications + configurations.

Anything you have done AFTER the backup, you will have to redo.

Yeah. So maybe using True Image would be an easy way to at least just clear my C drive, install windows again from fresh and see if windows was causing problems? If there's no improvement, then I can restore the full backup with the old OS. But if there IS improvement, it would be worth reinstalling individual programs.

Just to clarify, if I do a full restore of a True Image backup, will everything on my computer, on all my drives and virtual drives, all my settings, work just as I left it without having to reinstall or adjust a single thing?

Correct, but it would mean you have to 'customize' before you backup the system with Acronis.

Depends how many applications and settings your talking about would depend if it's worth it. If it's just a few save ur money and just reinstall os and apps.
