im just about to try to image my C:\ so i can restore the OS with all the updates/drivers and apps in the case of a problem

am i correct that you run this from within windows?

if i were come to restore this backup image to my C:\ do i need to create the bootable media ?

how do i get to restore it in the event that i have had to format my C: and my backup image is on my D: ?

is this the best thing to use to do this job?

thank you

You run it through windows, when you want to restore you can either use the boot disc which can be made when you start the software or if you can still boot into windows use the restore option, which the pc will reboot and carry out the process.

Edit: During the restore process you choose which image you want to use and location.

I just use Acronis for the bootable media. Install, create bootable media, uninstall.

I use robocopy to backup My Documents, which is on a separate partition, and the image/backups are stored on a removable drive.

Robocopy backups the files within windows everyday via Scheduled task. Then if I need to restore my backup image I boot from the Bootable Acronis Disk.

Works perfectly.

i have my data covered using synctoy to copy to a NAS drive

its just ghosting my OS drive (which ive never done before)

ive made a bootable disc and ive made an image of the drive

im just thinking if i need to test it to make sure ive done it right

i assume i can restore this image on to another disk to test it and see if i can boot from it, then ill be happy ..

Me too, I never install the bloatware on the machine I want to image. In fact, I'm a little anal about it.

I get the bootable media, then I fresh install Vista (or whatever OS), drivers, apps and a bit of config then I whack in the boot disc and image from that.

yup..

if acronis make a new release, i install it in a vm and create the ISO for the disc from there
