Does anyone here act, or like to go to drama classes etc? Just looking for some advice about it in general; what you do, how you started, what happens at the get togethers etc.

Wouldn't mind giving it a go.

It depends on what you want to achieve. Im an actor in the loosest sense of the word. I started out doing confidence building, moving onto movement (not dance) projection of voice, improvisation and working with scripts.

What is your goal? To be an actor or just fill your evenings?
 
Find your local amateur dramatic group (the type who put on shows 2 or 3 times a year in town theatres) and get involved. Don't be put off by the am-dram stereotype, pretty much all the shows of that type I've ever seen have been very good.
 
Learn to prance and mince first of all, wear a cravate and drape your coat around your shoulders. You'll fit right in :)

Seriously though, I've always wondered how I would come across as an actor, would I be really wooden or reasonably believable...?
 
I used to help run a childrens drama class if that helps! Also been involved in a lot of am dram societies, mainly technical and back stage but I have been known to tred the boards. They are, on the whole a good bunch of people but can be a bit cliké. I'd go down to your local group and get involved!

Join a (good) local amateur group first and see whether that works for you...listen and watch the older members and see how they do it...

...i did drama at school and loved it...(shakespeare mainly) then joined a local group about 8 years ago...still loving it. can be hard work at times (particularly if you have a full-time job!!) but the rewards and satisfaction after are exhilarating

Plus on a side note there can be a good social scene with it, with people coming from a great variety of backgrounds/interests.

For my part a mate of mine said i could be a pro...but that could mean anything :p
 
practice by lieing to those you love. if you can convince them, you can convince anyone.
 
Get involved in your local Am Dram group, most of them have a shortage of men. Just bare in mind Am Dram groups can have strange politics so don't get offended if they cast you as a pot plant.
