Action Blockbusters from the 80's & 90's?

Arnie: True Lies, Eraser, Last Action Hero
Sly: Assassins, The Specialist, Demolition Man
JCVD: Hard Target, Time Cop, Universal Soldier

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head :)
 
I was just saying the other day to work to this other guy how i feel sorry for the young guys these days because when i was young we had good action movies. Now they have captain america and all these marvel rip offs.

Recently I got on HD

aliens series
all die hard
speed
tango and cash
the jackal

but my fav is probably

the rock
con air
face off

old sylvester stallone and arnod swarznigger movies
 
They are hardly Marvel rip offs when they are produced by Marvel and contain nothng but Marvel characters.

I like the odd Marvel movie although Captain America did not do anything for me. Quite enjoyed Thor and the 1st Iron Man.
 
Enjoyed Judgement Night a lot as a kid more so the soundtrack, though maybe not a huge blockbuster was popular amongst my peers at the time. :)

The comic book films are much better today than they were in the 90's though, you think of Nolan's Batman, Singer's X-Men films, the 2 Iron Man films

I agree that it was great when you had Arnie, Sly, JCVD & Willis in their prime but like all things times have changed, no one has come on the scene and replaced them (we're left with poor comparisons like Vin Diesel & The Rock) and films have changed and all out action films are a thing of the past

I dont think film fans are doing too bad though (depending on which genre you like), last year had some good films as has this and next year looks very good also :)
 
I think it's a fair point though, yes good films still get made but in terms of the action blockbuster I'm really struggling to think of many from this millenium that are in the same league as those from the 80s and 90s.

Pleased to see Black Rain get mentioned above, I think it is one of the most underrated 80s films.

Not seen any love for The Untouchables yet? Perhaps not strictly an action movie though.

I miss the 80's and 90's

Also Robocop is another good one, they cant shoot up a crack house in modern film like they could in the 80's
 
Wow thanks for thw feedback! So far i've managed to 'obtain' Last Boy Scout and Tango & Cash, will give the rest a wee look on YouTube before I 'obtain' them again.

I don't believe First Blood has been mentioned, a great action movie.
