hello fine friends

i have been airsofting for 2 years now and i am thinking of investing in an action camera, but i am worried about the lens getting broken & the case getting cracked.

has anyone had any experience with action cameras & specifically in airsoft, i would be most interested in hearing about them!

the gopro hd hero 2 seems to be the perfect one, but is a lot of money.
i have struggled to find something like that but cheaper, i dont fancy taking a £100+ pound of kit airsofting if its going to break.

thanks in advance kind sirs

You can get body armour for some cameras which would help protect the case but tbh, I'd probably look at just getting a GoPro. Cameras designed for use with things like Xgames, motocross etc so very sturdy.

replacement parts and protective housings all available and provide decent quality recording.

GoPro is the one to get, I've had it underwater 30m, fallen off a motorbike at 40mph and allsorts and it's completly indestructible. The camera is seperate to the case to even if you damage it you can buy a new case cheap. The lens is also glass so not likely to scratch and replacements are also available cheaply.
Also it has the most mounting options, Helmet, chest, gun. Most of the other cams are helmet only which makes for a pretty boring video.

If budget is a constraint i'd get the Hero HD instead of the 2. If you're filming in 1080p or 720p there is no advantage to the HD2 really, the only feature you'd be gaining is the Field of view settings which is more than ok on the HD already but not adjustable, and the higher quality stills which aren't used much. I feel no need to upgrade.

GoPro's are the one, was cycling with a mate and he come off going over a 10ft drop, landed on the side of his head, on the actual camera.

All that broke was the little plastic mount, the camera was fine!

This was when it was hammering with rain too!

You can get lower GoPros for under 200 quid, but the HdHero2 is just such amazing quality, it's the one i'm getting when I move to Canada to be a Mountain bike guide and Snowboard instructor ;)

FOLLOW UP - so last year around November I bought the gopro 2 hd finally! I did however buy it in america and save myself £70 or so.

here is some footage of it in use! not too much action though i'm affraid. it was wet and cold, so the battery only lived for 23 mins worth of recording! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T9VBxe5Teo
