Actions to be taken on receipt of a bomb threat:
• Switch on recorder/voicemail (if connected)
• Tell the caller which town/district you are answering from
• Record the exact wording of the threat:
Ask the following questions:
• Where is the bomb right now?
• When is it going to explode?
• What does it look like?
• What will cause it to explode?
• Did you place the bomb?
• Why?
• What is your name?
• What is your address?
• What is your telephone number?

Does anyone else think the mad bomber might not really want to tell me his home address?

Lol

Patronising tosh.

Any terrorist worth their salt is hardly likely to answer any of those questions truthfully. LOL. :D

yeah we have that kinda thing too, it says we should ask for details of:

1 Where is the bomb right now?

2 When is it going to explode?

3 What does it look like?

4 What kind of bomb is it?

5 What will cause it to explode?

6 Did you place the bomb?

7 Why?

8 What is your name?

9 What is your address?

10 What is your telephone number?

on one list it even has little bomb symbols for the bullet points!

edit: just realised it's exactly the same lol, think someone's been half-inching things!

Perhaps I have the mind of a terrorist but surely answering the questions is an opportunity to just cause even more mayhem than necessary.

1 Where is the bomb right now? - Give three or four possible locations.

2 When is it going to explode? - Give five or six different times.

3 What does it look like? - BHS, M&S or WHSmith bag, black briefcase being carried by a man, childs pram, numerous answers all intended to cause maximum panic.

4 What kind of bomb is it? Urm, the type that explodes and kills people.

5 What will cause it to explode? Mobile phone, remote and it is booby trapped.

6 Did you place the bomb? Yes and so did the three other people we haven't told you about.

7 Why? Does it matter.

8 What is your name? Mickey Mouse, Tony Blair, Woody Allen; they are hardly likely to give their real name now are they.

9 What is your address? 10 Downing Street, 41 Acacia Avenue, The Whitehouse......etc.

10 What is your telephone number? Oh come on.

What a retarded response to a bomb threat by phone, whoever thought of those questions deserves a great big

What I am more confused by, is why the bomber would actually want to warn people...

If you assume it is a real bomb then they either want to ensure that innocent civilians are out of the way and the emergency services are going to be there or alternatively just to cause more panic before detonation.

If you assume it to be a false threat then they can still achieve a massive amount of disruption by the hoax and have a major impact yet without the trouble of actually creating a bomb and injuring people.

Either way objective is achieved. Those are just a few reasons off the top of my head but I'm sure there are more. :)

the front of our internal phone book has a multiple choice questionnaire to fill in while on the phone to the mad bomber:eek:
such as

5)Language
(a) poor............Excellent
(b)foul

6)
(a)local
(b)foreign(nationality?)
(c)regional

8)
background noises............there are 9 options!

Exactly and those questions give them an opportunity to maximise the impact of the disruption be it a real bomb or just a hoax. The most sensible thing to do is to just let them have their say, after all they have called to warn or gloat over the threat and so they are more likely to divulge useful information voluntarily than through the use of retarded question asked by an untrained person.

Or the bomb (or a secondary device) is actually planted in the zone where people will gather after the evacuation of the building/area has taken place.

No reference to codewords at all?
Yes, that thought did pass my mind as well but was also something that I have always found strange anyway.

I don't think the current batch of nutjobs use such a system. They have no honour I suppose.

Why would a terrorist organisation, upon phoning in a bomb threat, NOT want to tell the recipient who they are, why they've done it, and how to contact them?

Whats the point in doing it anonymously?
These questions make sense, terrorism is public, and they want you to know what they've done.

It also adds weight to the threat - i.e. "This is real, this is who we are- you've seen what we've done before..."

don't think a lot of organisations would use them. there was a bomb threat at our school once they took seriously as an IRA codeword was used, wasn't real though. A lot of people seemed to know the codeword after too.

I remember a couple of years ago having to check all the bins and under all the seats in the cinema I work in for fire bombs after threats were made towards a couple of the companies other cinemas.

If the terrist orginisation has (delusions of?) a political motive then their likely to give a warning as their aim it to cause disruption and finincial hardship to those they see as opposing them rather than causing mass injurys or death.

Unfortunatly much of the terrorism today seems to be aimed at killing anyone who doesn't aggree with you
