Hi, i have server 2003 and want to set everyones home page to a particular URL. I have navigated to the folder i want it to work on and gone to its GPO and then in the GPO i have navigated to user configuration\ internet explorer maintenance\URL's\important and in there i have set the homepage. However this has not worked and i dont know why!!! i have left it a night and by the next day it still hasnt worked.

can anyone help?

How often do clients refresh their GP? Try running gpupdate /enforce on a client that it hasn't worked on. It may also require either a logoff or a restart.

Thx for the reply Burnsy, i have already refreshed the clients GP usuing gpupdate /enforce and got them to log off then on again to no joy unfortunately, is there a setting somewhere in active directory that i need to turn on or did i do it correctly?

I thought it would depend on the actualy refresh on the Domain server from the primary Domain server... so for example, our main domain server is called Dakota, but I'm on the Domain server Domino so if I refresh my GPO it would go to Domino?

Do you mean replication? i tried that, no joy, however i have just done the rounds and noticed 1 or 2 peoples home pages have now changed.....but its taken a day!! and thats only for a fraction of the users! is there something i am missing or does this usually take days?

IIRC, It is possible for a GP policy change to need 3 logon/logoff cycles before it gets applied on XP & Vista.

2000 works differently.

What is the name of your GPO?

On a client run gpresult and see if your policy is there, and if it is beign appled, it may not be applying for some reason.

You can also check another way. Download and install this on the server:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/gpmc/default.mspx

Next time you go into group policy youll notice that you can now do a group policing modelling wizard to check what settings any client/useraccount is getting. It also makes it much easier to see what settigns a GPO has thatn actually having to go into it.

Hoep this helps.

If it's a computer based policy then the client may need a reboot.

Have you linked the policy to the OU that the computer is in?

Run gpresult at the cmd line on one of the clients, are the clients picking up any policies? Likewise to a previous post, have you linked the policy to the user OU.
