Multi domain enviroment Main Head office site 2 Domain controllers DC1 + DC2. DC1 is a Global catalog and DC2 Holds the infrastructure master role and is not a GC

We have numerous Remote sites with there own DC but they are not Global catalogs they have Universal group membership caching enabled and refresh the cache from the GC DC in the main head office site which is DC1

Due to a issue at one of the Remote Sites (The group membership cache refresh task has reached the maximum number of users for the local domain controller" i need to make it a Global catalog

I thought it would be just a case of making it a GC and turning off UGMC but someone is telling me i need to make all the other DC's in the other remote sites a GC and also make the Infrastructure master DC a GC

I was under the impression that you only need to make all DC's a Global catalog if the server that has the Infrastrastructure master role is a GC which in our case it isnt

Any help ?

I'm not aware of you needing all DC's in the site having to be GC's - it sounds wrong and I've never came across this.
Just be aware that the remote sites DC's replication will increase when changed to a GC when in a multiple domain environment, may or may not be an issue depending on number of objects, WAN links and replication schedules.

Rule for GC's and the Inf Master role -
If you have a single domain have them on the same Domain Controller
If you have multiple domains then keep them on different Domain Controllers
