I'm looking for some help with an active USB extension I need to run. Distance is about 20-25M going from a desktop to a Pipe welding control box.
The issue I'm having is that when i run the device at short distance (regular 3M cables) it recognises the device no problem (USB to serial converter type) however when I add in the active extension cable it will pick up the device before stating it does not recognise it and won't let me install a driver to suit. The extension definitely works as I can plug in USB sticks etc no problem.

I've tried running a cat 6 cable wired in to USB connectors to try and check if Passive would work but I think the distance might be too high.
I've also tried another cable just in case but no change.
eventviewer seems to be suggesting it might be some kind of security authorisation preventing it?

Any suggestions?

Hi sorry for the slow reply. It's not an optical cable just needs to be usb2.0. the device it's plugging into has it's own 100V power supply so all good there. I tried adding in a powered USB hub in case the desktop (it's old) didn't have a high enough current output but no joy.
We are considering running into rs232 as we already have cabling in place for a datalogging device that uses this. Just seems odd that the device isn't recognised. Is there some sort of security protocol if the device has a little more latency or something?
