Activision merge with Blizzard

You won't see any difference to the way Blizzard operates, why would they merge when it's going to negatively effect the way they operate?

Edit: Also Vivendi has a 52% stake in this merger.

Just more funding i guess, Also 2 publishers working together is always abit of pro/con as even though they can collaborate and probably create even more innovative games Blizzard will probably want to create a rented system (Bit like XBL).

Monthly Subscription, Great New Games.

Thats how i see it, as long as they release more great titles i will be happy.

Activision aren't exactly slouches either. These are two giant heavy-hitters merging. Normally mergers have some big greedy company eating up a weak developer that's currently on its knees. This isn't the case here.

edit: also very happy that EA isn't in the frame. This should send off a very very clear warning shot to those shovelware-churning fleabags.

This was my first thought. Hopefully EA will pull their fingers out as a result of this.

It's worth remembering that Blizzard (or rather, Vivendi, the owner of Blizzard since 1998) still has a 52% stake. It's the top dog of the two, and will be the one that dictates the major decisions.

I see this as very bad news for the gaming industry, leaving aside my thoughts on Blizzard (since VU bought them) and Activision, it looks like we're going to have fewer and fewer independent developers which imo will stifle innovation and price competition.

Edit - WoW ported onto the Xbox 360 in 2008, or 2010 if the Blizzard guys do it ;)

And how would that work exactly ? :p

Ive been reading posts everywhere on this, and people assume/getting worried because two businesses merge that they're suddenly going to release a hybrid of their games like of call of duty and warcraft, and world of guitar hero and other stupid crap.

And i can't see this being bad news, why would blizzard stop creating brilliant games because they've merged with a massive publisher? doesn't make sense, it's like ford buying range rover, they're not exactly going to start making a mondeo into a offroad 4 wheel drive

No but they did use Mondeo parts in Aston Martins :p

World of Duty
World of Duty: The Burning Guitar Hero

Ah, I can see it now... The possibilities!

Seriously though, I don't like this. Blizzard have made some excellent games in the past and I just don't see that continuing now with the merger...

Depends on the agreement signed, just because you own 52% doesent nesaccalry mean you have control.

Indeed - I believe it's the Activision CEO who will run the new company? Remember Activision were the fags behind charging almost double for Call of Duty 4 for UK citizens via Steam. I wonder if UK people will suddenly have to pay more for their WoW subscriptions too? :(

but then again blizzard will do it right!

vivendi are also going to increase that stake to 68% later on aswell according to the inquirer

but considering the way blizzard ahve been opperating recently i doubt that this merger will affect their IPs much as they really wont want any interferance with them really, but it will give them a much stronger team to create what they desire in other fields

i dont think activision will be a weak link at all with their experiance even if they are theiving bums

wild speculation: maybe they'll get them to make a new homeworld game for vivendi
