I was gonna create a thread a while ago about the Writers strike, this seemed the logical sub forum, but I was too lazy.

Now the Actors just joined them, It's time!

I'm sure most here remember the 2007-08 writers strike decimating a lot of network TV shows. The 2023 writers strike has done similar, so many returning seasons of shows delayed, and movies.
This is the 1st Actors strike that I can recall and most people are much more likely to take notice now as we all know film and tv stars' names, the writers not so much.

Who will settle first, writers, or actors? Does anyone care? End result is the same, no new content without either group.

Edit: When the writers strike began a couple of months ago some sites started making a list of shows that would be delayed or had paused filming. Now with the actors as well, it would be easier to make a list of things that aren't delayed!

So potentially 4-5 months pay could turn into one day at most. I think this strike is mainly about streamers like Netflix. They have totally different financial setups.. e.g. everyone knows how well traditional theatrical releases do at the BO and although a lot of Hollywood accounting goes on, you get there in the end. On the other hand if you make a movie for Netflix, how do you get residuals from that? Are Netflix even honest with their production budgets? Or honest with the stats they (sometimes) release? Nobody knows.

I didn't read their full list of demands/issues, but I did read this one. If it's true it's quite a bad deal for all the little people. 1 days pay is beyond greedy by the studios!

Writers been going for 2 months and 12 days already.

Could end quickly or take ages. I'm sure some films in the oct-dec period could easily get delayed if it doesn't end by say September.

AI is a very small part of the standoff, apparaently. It's just these days those 2 letters drive a media frenzy, and are so badly understood!

The Studios learnt from the last strike.

The last strikes helped accelerate the, relatively, cheap reality TV shows that it will help fill the void.

Plus this time we have the streaming services and people will happily just watch old shows and films in the meantime. Last time it was mainly network TV shows that tradionally start in September that were hardest hit.

Also the studios completed a lot of films and shows a bit early so this time round they have a lot of completed content in the bank that they can slowly drop feed us.

Finally, a few people, are watching the Korean stuff on Netflix instead. That's probably a very small minority though, judging by the lack of threads in this sub.

Maybe people will care a bit more in a few months when things they were hoping to see get delayed.

Netflix price will go up as a consequence . I read earlier they were just waiting for the strike to end to announce the price increases outside of USA. Whether the price would have gone up without the strikes, hard to say but probably!

The strike just gives them an "easy" justification.

It went up in the USA, UK & France already, earlier this month I guess. I'm certain the other Euro countries will soon increase to the France price. Once it's 19.99 Euros in Spain, I'm out.
