Ad-aware and AVG wont update!

Ive had ad aware installed on my new acer laptop for quite a while and i had it running along with spybot and mcafee internet security which was free with the laptop.

However mcafee was due to run out this week so i uninstalled it and installed AVG internet security instead.

but...........

now when i try to update adaware or avg they both say they cant connect to the server. Ive also tried manually downloading from the respected websites but just get a website error.

My spybot and ccleaner both still update fine.

So far ive tried turning off windows firewall and uninstalling avg and trying again but its still the same.

Any ideas :confused:

Tried something that may detect rootkits and the like?

Run the usual suspects (I'd go for safe mode):

Smitfraudfix
Combofix
Malwarebytes
Superantispyware

I had this issue on a laptop the other day, this resolved it
