Another year flies by along with my second Chinese Grand Prix in a row. And my, what a cracking day it was with a great group, amazing seats and even better racing.

If you've never been to a Grand Prix and are a little unsure, then DON'T BE, it's one hell of an experience that every petrolhead should try at least once. Of course it helps being in a foreign country where the weather is generally good, but as long as you have a good vantage point you're in for one hell of a weekend whatever track you head to.

Without further ado, here are my pic from this year, with all action shots taken from the back row of Grandstand H with my trusty 5D mkIII & 70-300L.

Enjoy :D

Cheers guys.

Really happy with the shots. They needed some work in Lightroom as the lighting and smog/haze made them quite bland straight out the camera.

Also enjoyed the race a lot more this year rather than watching it through the lens as one can tend to do, rather than just loving the experience.

Greats shots. My experience of three GP so far is the Chinese trounced them all. The hairpin is a great spectator position (although I think T1 was pretty good this year), with consistantly exciting races.

Have you been then?

Same seats as last year, we advised one of my gfs friends to see what she could arrange with the Chinese ticket place. Worked perfectly as we had the last 2 rows for 20 of us which included a concrete area at the back for beer storage and general hanging around.

T1 did look to have loads of action, the new addition of DRS on the start straight really helped.

Great photos. Love how you got Gutierrez hitting Sutil.

Yeah, lucky to get it as many don't even realise. Focus is a bit off, but all I could do was mash shutter and fire off frames at max rate with a hope of getting it.

Great pics, sounds like you had a great time :)

May I ask how come you've been to two Chinese GP's? Is it work/relatives/holiday etc?

Gf had a 2yr work contract over there so lives in SH. Amazing place, especially to party, wish I could have gone over a few more times.

As it turns out she's just got another job internally for a quick full role (found out the day I flew there) and moves to Bangkok in 3weeks. So no more Chinese GP for me, been there, done it, loved it.

I'm worried about seeing other races as I doubt they could compare in terms of spectator visibility, cost and amazing racing. Will look at Singapore though ;)

Nice pics. Is that vignetting deliberate or from the lens?

Some light vignetting added to most pics in LR, lens has none. Seriously impressed with the lens and 5DMkIII, the focusing speed and accuracy is sensational. Just a pity I had no other Motorsport events to practise my technique at before this with the new kit (only used the lens once since I got it 4weeks ago to shoot pan starrs comet). There were too many missed shots, but hen again I had shaking hands from a day of drinking before until 5am race day and was on the beers again from 11am :D:D

To be fair if I was in the stands I would rather enjoy the racing and just get a few pics to remember the day by rather than missing everyone to get that perfect panning shot on a Marussia :p

I'm hoping the 7D MkII (or whatever Canon call it) gets the same focusing system as the 5D MkII as that plus 10fps will make for an epic combo - my 550D is dumb as **** when it comes to focusing and tracking objects!

I thought the same thing after trying to get a sharp panning shot on a marussia, then promptly stopped bothering!

I guess you meant mk3 not mk2 as the later is pants? Yup, great system, very customisable too, all the remapping buttons is great, dof preview mapped to ai servo quick switch is amazeballs.

Well the gf got some great shots on the 650d I got her (55-250 on it), but she has a great photographers eye, better than mine :(

Save up and get the 7d replacement, or just go FF. soo glad I did as upgrade itch I gone completely!!!!

Derp yeah sorry I meant the MK3, I really would like one but I'd rather spend the money saved on better glass instead.

Anyway good to see that these newer tracks aren't as dull and homogeneous as some people make out :)
