"Adaptive Sync", "Freesync"? G-Sync not available?

So noticed on my old Asus ASUS PB278QV Monitor it has "Adaptive Sync" enabled, and indeed it's mentioned on the Asus website too - https://www.asus.com/uk/displays-desktops/monitors/all-series/pb278qv/

Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync: It can allow a Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync supported graphics source to dynamically adjust display refresh rate based on typical content frame rates for power efficient, virtually stutter free and low-latency display update.

If I want to use it, is that associated with "Adaptive" in the NVideo "Vertical Sync" options? Or is that option nothing to do with the above Adaptive Sync/Freesync of the monitor?

I've looked in the NVidia Control panel can can't see a GSync option. Is that only available if a GSync monitor is detected?

Confused...

ps: Connected from my NVidia 4070 to the monitor over an HDMI.

Yeh, in the NVidia Control panel there is no option there where I'd expect GSync. And that should be offered for a non-GSync monitor such as mine? ie: You enable a Freesync link via the G-Sync option in Nvidia Control Panel?

The 5yr old monitor has HDMI 1.4 port and DP 1.2. There's no talk (on the website or in the manual) of its Adaptive Sync(Freesync) being DP only? I can try it if really necessary, but this is a 4+yr old monitor!?

Again, from the monitor's manual:-
Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync: It can allow a Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync supported graphics source to dynamically adjust display refresh rate based on typical content frame rates for power efficient, virtually stutter free and low-latency display update.

^ This option is enabled on the monitor.

OK, I'll try the display port tomorrow and report back. Thanks...

As regards G-Sync HDMI support:-
NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible works only via DisplayPort 1.2 or later version. AMD FreeSync Premium works with HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 or later version.

So given that, and looking ahead, given my Aten CS1822 KVM is at least HDMI 2.0 that should allow me to use G-Sync via HDMI 2.0 to a FreeSync compatible monitor?

Right!

So my old 5yr old monitor is DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.4. Plugging in from my Nvidia 4070 to that monitor via HDMI, no G-Sync option. Plugging in via DP, a G-Sync option pops up immediately ;) I guess cos it detects the monitor's Freesync?

Looking forward to upgrading my monitor which is plugged into the PC in question via HDMI thru an Aten CS1822 4K KVM, if that doesn't support/offer G-Sync/Freesync, worse case I guess I could also plug a DP lead directly from the PC to the new monitor (in addition the KVM HDMI) and switch to that DP source on the monitor for games which I feel G-Sync/Freesync help. Else just use the HDMI source.
