I understand the Windows Games thingy is no more and the games can now be added to Steam. I never finished the game so thought I'd install it and play it through. I have the original game/DVD/key but can't play it, Steam won't accept the code and I get a dll error if I try and launch it after installing it from the DVD.

I ideally want to redeem the code on Steam. Any ideas?

Not sure what the issue is, but GFWL is still going just fine so you can still sign in etc.

Trouble is you can get the game most of the time for £2, is it really worth the hassle messing about?

Hell you can get it here cheap as well, price is in euros.

Sure if you look around you can get it cheaper still, might as well just buy it on steam just to get around all the hassle imo seeing as you can buy it dog cheap.

I couldn't sign in, it game me an error. I'm not desperate enough to buy the game again, regardless of price. I've paid for it once, so I don't see why I should pay for it again. I've sent a ticket to Steam, will see what they say.

Cheers.

Supposedly there was a problem with this. Quite a few people had to get in touch with WB to get a key for Steam. This took a bit of too-ing and fro-ing via email etc.

I haven't bothered with that, as said it is usually available dirt cheap anyway.

Bioshock 2 worked for me without issue, however. So seems limited to the Batman games.

Is this on win 8 btw? if so you have to download the gfwl client from the website I believe. It also has a 1.1 patch that you can google and apply to see if that fixes it.

You are right though you should be able to use your cdkey as per here:

My only guess is maybe a letter is wrong, say a 6 looks like a G or something, you might laugh but it has happened to many people.

EDIT: Oh wait that is AC, but I am guessing AA should be the same.

Having done this myself a couple of months ago:

Sent off an email to Warner brothers - can find the email address if wanted?

They asked me to send a photo of the case, the cd and the serial number - they then sent me through a steam cd key for the game of the year edition :-)

From what I gather certain batches of the serial keys cannot be redeemed (maybe the non GOTY's?)

Funnily enough I was just about to ask a similar question about Batman AA.

I have Akham Asylum on Steam already but bought a retail version as I'm after the achievements on my live account. Installed the game and entered my key which gave me a 'This key is not valid for this game' baring in mind this was a sealed copy of the game.

Is the updated client a work-around to fixing this?

@OP, are you getting the same error message?

I figured it would work, I also have a retail disc that I used to use. I am going to install it now and will report back if that old key works on GFWL. I guess if they tried to convert all the keys then maybe they won't work on GFWL anymore.

That'll be great, I tried launching GFWL and it threw me a 'Must be a matching Windows Live ID.....' and then stops working, this was after a reinstall so a bit baffled there as well!

I can confirm my retail disc version installs, it logs into GFWL then it downloads 1.1. It then restarts the game and installs. Then the game restarts and it works just fine, screenshot of me logged into GFWL and running 1.1:

In short it still works on GFWL

Thanks for checking, not sure why my key doesn't work and instead of giving a invalid key error message it just says it's not valid for this type of game... makes no sense! I'll drop them an email.

Hey people - I did this at the start of April, hopefully it's still the same process

Initially I submitted a ticket at:
http://support.wbgames.com/ics/support/ticketnewwizard.asp?style=classic

All future emails were then through:
[email protected]

So your prepared / know what will be wanted this was there response back:

Thank you for contacting Warner Bros Games Support.

We are sorry to hear you are having issues with your code.

Please send us:
- a dated proof of purchase (receipt, invoice) showing the purchase of a copy of the game
- a picture of the case (front and back)
- a picture of the game disc inside the case
- a picture of the code

Once we will receive the pictures, we will provide you with a new AA key for Steam.
