i have a sort-of old Corsair A50 cpu cooler, that i bought when i didn't have much money, and to be honest it works ok, after changing the fan from stock to akasa viper, but i would like to make it a bit more efficient. is there any way that i can attach a second fan to the heatsink, or is this not possible?

this is possible because i have done it with mine, and to be honest, is worth doing, its like a suction chamber when you get too close to it! lol

i used long case fan screws, its not tight, but is tight enough for it not to fall of.

i have put the standered fan facing down, and the second fan facing up.

to connect it i used the fan controller i have with the case so if it needs be, i can just wack up for abit and get it cool again !

hope that helps :)

yeah, thanks for that. out of interest, is the computer any louder than it was, or is the volume about the same after the addition of another fan?

also, where do you think is the best place to get long case fan screws (are you talking about the long ones you find on the amd stock coolers?)

hi, if you go for a silent fan, then it shouldnt really be any louder, i found mine to be about the same.

i got mine from maplins, and yes i think they are the same as the long ones you find on stock coolers. they only cost £3 for 30 with the nuts and bolts.

what fan would you suggest. i currently have akasa vipers, and they're pretty quiet, but are there any others like this?

Any of these would do, but if you look at the 120mm fans on OCUK, there is hundreds, its just a matter of finding ones you like, and checking description.

it will say in there how loud they are, also read customer reviews, they can help.

Can be bought cheap online or phone your local electrical supply, DIY, pound shop, computer store, etc. if you need them faster. One of them should have them. They should be quite cheap too.. but some places what you to think they are like gold and charge crazy prices.

just so i know, do all fans spin the same direction (clockwise/anticlockwise), and which way round do i mount the fans onto the heatsink? will it work better if they both face the same way, or if they are both blowing air in/drawing air out of the heatsink (so opposite ways)?

you will want to moun them the same way, so they are push pull effect.

FAN PUSH > (HEATSINK) > FAN PULL

i dont know which way they go, i cant remember, but im sure a little google search will tell you which way there supose to be mounted.

hope that helps.
