add in NIC, is there much difference between them?

so for reasons, networking issues im going to grab a network card to see if that fixes my issues. what im wondering is does it really matter what one to get? ive seen some talk of the intel ones being better than realtek based ones but nothing very recient. so is there a lot of difference, are they all pretty much the same?

also, pcie vs pci, there a lot of difference between the interfaces?

What issues are you getting? Network cards tend to either 100% work or not work at all (rare)

Realtek are decent, for 99.9% of tasks, you won't notice a difference between any NICs, unless you need VLAN tagging etc. You'd know if you did need it.

issues that i cant seem to nail down what the f the caues is and at this stage im either thinking its the onboard lan socket thats defective (agreed hardware either usually works or total fail but ive tried several drivers and turned every seting on and off and nothing cured it) so im down to, wipe and renstall windows which is hours of pain and a waste of a day or its some hardware thing and as cards start from a few quid its the easier next thing to try

A live Linux disc means you don't need to reinstall, but you can test on that instead.

Any NIC would do for this.

Realtek gigabit ethernet chips don't tend to cause any real problems, try and stick with intel though. Preferably borrow an Intel PCI-E NIC from a friend for testing or buy a cheap single/dual port one.

id go with a different chipset to whatever your using now, incase its some funky incompatability issue

If it helps you at all you can grab old server Intel NIC cards for a few £ on auction sites. I got a 2 port gigabit Intel PCI-e card for £3 delivered not long ago and it fixed all my disconnect problems!

I would suggest trying the live Linux disk/USB so that can rule out the software side of things first.

Any gigabit Intel NIC will do.

Checked your other thread, do you have ASUS Network iControl installed?

nope, its not installed an the main machine, the machine thats seems to be centre of all issues is an msi board, and nope no msi equivilent.
