it would appear every single domain name i'm after is taken so i'm having to be creative and add a small extra to it to get on that's free.

i would like to hear suggestions for how to keep the domain short and it be free? my best idea atm is to add uk to the end so mysiteuk.com, though i'm not so keen on the uk.com bit. i tried adding ltd but it's taken, adding - but it's taken and not ideal, tried .net etc all taken for all the names i want. adding services gets me a .com name so i could do this but it makes the name long and not so nice when printed on things with limited space and ends up being really small yet really long.

Might help if we had the name of your company...

But are you not able to use something like my-site.com?

Why not change the name of your company? Obviously a saturated market ;-)

Hyphens is the usual way to get around this, also look at other domains than .com if suitable. You also might consider using subdomains to add more relevance to your domain name, so if you were only able to get secondchoicedomain.com you could use something.secondchoicedomain.com to better communicate the site's intention.

It also depends on how much users will actually be using your url to get to your site and how often they will re-vist.

well i deced to add the to the beggining to end up with www.thecleanforce.co.uk it never hurt thefacebook.com get going so i don't think it'll hurt ours either, i just wish it was 3 letters shorter but can't win them all. i think adding the was better then having cleanforceuk.com
