Hey,

I bought these last year (just mentioning them in case it helps you answer the question):

- Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming AMD X470 (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
- AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 2700 4.10GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070Ti Gaming 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Seasonic Focus Plus 550W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply

And the SATA cables that came with the parts etc allows me to add 3 SSD/HDDs, which I have used all of them. 2 are SSD and one a standard HDD.

I was wondering is it possible for me to have more than 3 hard drives? I recently purchased at 2TB Samsung EVO SSD and want to add it to the current setup without having to transfer data from the smaller HDD I already have onto this, and removing the old one.

If it is possible, what would I need to search on say Amazon to find a cable that’ll allow me to add another SSD or a new cable that connects all 4 together? (If OC sell the cables then I’m happy to buy from OC!)

Thank you!

just need to buy sata 3 cables

a fancy example

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cablemod-modmesh-sata-3-cable-30cm-black-cm-15e-cm.html

one sata cable from board to drive only !

power cables can normally be daisy chained

m.2 drives removed pwoer cables, but have to check which sata 3 port they disable !

top one shouldn't but bottom one would

You need a Sata data cable, two examples below:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £10.42 (includes shipping: £3.48)

Your PSU should have at least 6 SATA power connectors, so as long as you have a connector that reaches the location of your new SSD, you'll be fine (along with the cable for data).

So with my PSU, I should be able to have 3 SSD’s and a standard 3.5HDD all connected at once?

I believe I only have the 1 SATA cable connected to the MB. It connects to it and then comes off the side and through the back into the areas with the SSDs and HDD.

I just never understand the PSU connector and cables and how they are work as this was the first PC I ever built completely from scratch. So I have little knowledge on which cables can be linked together without causing issues, and which part of the PSU it goes.

Here’s a picture of my current PSU and setup. Can I add a new SATA cable to the PSU to add my 3.5HDD? All 3 of my SSD’s are now connected, I’ll just readd the old 3.5 HDD when I get a cable.

I assume that only one cable can connect to the PSU as the 4 connections state:

Peripheral - IDE / SATA / MOLEX

Does that mean the first 6 pin set is for Peripheral, second for IDE, third for SATA or can all 4 of the 6 pin connections be used for any of those things? Just wondering whether I add a new cable to the 6 pin connector, or if I need to add an attachment to the single SATA cable already connected to the PSU and Motherboard; which then branches off into 3 different connectors for 3 separate HDDs.

Sorry I know I this must be painful for those who really know there stuff. I just want to ensure I do everything right and don’t risk ruining a £1500+ rig and so on.
