Add router/extender?

A friend wants to add more wifi coverage to his house.
He has a virgin super hub in the upstairs bedroom at the one end of the house. I have run a cat5e cable from this downstairs into his office and this plugs into his dvr for his cctv.
Now is it just a case of putting a router on this cable and then patch it into the dvr? Do you have to change settings in the virgin hub?
What is required/ recommended hardware wise.

Put a switch on the end of the cable and then the DVR and an access point Into the switch. In case it's not obvious from other threads, a Uniquiti UniFi AC Lite or Pro dependent on budget is going to be the most recommended solution. And a fine one it is too.

So using the aforementioned there is no setup to do?
Is that not ceiling mounted only?
So i need a switch aswel and would it need to have power over ethernet?
