Mate of mine has the spec below, if he got 2gb/4gb ram and a better (second hand) graphics card would it be good enough for COD4/5 and alike?

AMD 5200+ x2 2.60ghz chip (stock cooler)
7600GT 256mb pcie Point of view
500w PSU
1GB Cheap brand ram

Was thinking of getting some ram and another card from MM for him and that might do him for another year??

Thanks guys ;)

Pretty much depends on what resolution he intends to run it at. Look at the recomended specifications on the game boxes to see how it would fair. There are probably too many variables in the graphics settings to give you an accurate answer though it should cope with at least mid settings with that graphics card.

More ram and maybe a 4850 from MM should see him thru for a while yet, especialy with COD games as they dont push hardware as much as other games

barely...

not really.

I play cod4 with AAx2,
Specular Map on,
Glow on,
Ragdoll on,
Bullet Holes on,
Model Detail Normal,
1280x1024 res
- only thing turned off is shadows (still get shadows, just not enahanced lighting), Vsync, and Soften Smoke.

My spec is:
AMD 3500+ Single Core
6800
1GB ram

No lag at all in online play. The OP's spec is more than adequate.

That spec is more than capable. IF you look to add maybe a 4850 or even a 4870 , nvidia 260GTX and 4GB memory you should have no problems.

However your thread states " or ditch it " ? Does your mate have a potential budget to go with if we were to spec a potential new build. ?? Give me an amount and i'll see what it all brings.

Hi

Well he wants a new monitor and to breath some life into his current spec

£200 is about all? Half for a monitor and the other half for some ram and graphics card...

Suppose ditching isn't an option as he doesn't have the funds to start from scratch ...
