Addicted to Coca Cola...

I am surprised you are not fat as you said you are, there are about 120Cal in each can of 330 coke, that is

You have:

Breakfast - 1 can
Before 11am - 2 can
Lunch - 2 can
Journey home - bottle
Evening - 1 to 2 Litre

By my math, rough sum, it's about 44cal per 100ml. You consum between 3150 to 4150 cal a day on just Coca Cola. That is more than enough to live on in terms of energy even if you don't eat a grain of rice. How is it possible that you are not fat. I don't buy this high metabolism……surely that is not possible. You must be really active or something!

On the other hand, well done getting yourself off it, it's bad (even though I had a can on Sunday, first in about 3 months) and feel hell guilty afterwards. Another good thing, apart from the calories, that much sugar will lead to diabetes, so giving it up is another plus.

I cut my caffeine intake by about 90% about 6 weeks ago, just like that. Bang. Stopped.

I can't tell you how much better I feel for it.

I used to be the same years ago. I would drink around 1-2 litres of coke a day, almost every day for at least 9 years. Putting on weight wasn't an issue due to my fairly active job.
How did I ween myself off it?
The main reasons were having to cut down on spending too much (girlfriend became pregnant) and free tea & coffee introduced at work. The constant nagging about how I drank too much coke/it'll rot your teeth, liver, bones, etc, did not influence my decision in any way!;)
Now I get moaned at for having too much sugar in my tea and for using a tea bag per cup when making two cups of tea instead of "sharing" it!

I don't drink as much coke as that and such but I can often eat a few extra thousand cal's a day and it not have any effect on my weight. I've been 9 or so stone for the past 3-4 years nevermind how much I eat/or don't.

I used to eat rubbish all the time like crisps, chocolates and fizzy drinks with little to no exercise. I then tried doing some exercise and soon felt sick and dizzy, only then did i realize how bad that sort of food is and missing out on the right types of food. It makes me a bit sick seeing people drinking fizzy drinks all the time now.

Good luck giving up, if you realized how bad for you it is maybe you would find it easier to give up.

I've been the same weight for 10 years, regardless of how much I eat. I only find I tend to put weight on if I eat a lot and do exercise/workout.

As someone who can find themselves working in front of a computer for long sustained periods I feel your pain. What's worse is I only really like drinking coke from cans, the most expensive way! (Actually glass bottles may be more, but they're whack anyway :p). Problem is even on shoot there's always a fridge and it'l always have coke, on location someone will always bring coke, it's a nightmare!

Now I've gone from maybe 3-6 cans a day to one every few days. You can have anything in moderation, you don't have to ween yourself off it completely. Just try and have lots of different options in the fridge. I jump between Tea, Coffee, Milk, Nesquick, OJ, all sorts :) Variety is good, and you'll forget about wanting a coke every 5 minutes.

What bleedin' cheapskate moans at you for that?! One bag per cup, unless you're making a pot!

Good luck to the OP.

I'm not sure whether its the caffeine or the sugar that is responsible for your symptoms of withdrawal but you're doing the right thing. Might want to take up some form of exercise to give you some added motivation and to give you something positive to focus on. Drink plenty of water too.

I see surprisingly high rates of diabetes in many of the service users I work with many of them are still in their twenties.

You know, this is another reason why I knew I had to kick it. After my mother was diagnosed with diabetes not too long ago, after doing some reading I knew I was gonna have to stop to help reduce the risks!

I am also addicted to Coke. I know that I am, so i never buy it, and now only rarely have it and more often than not only in its bestest, optimum form (straight from a chilled, glass bottle).

Its weird, like if its there, i literally cannot stop myself from drinking all of it. a 6 pack of cans would last me 1 day.

Mmmmmmm....Coke from a chilled glass bottle! Damn you :P I once found a place stocking the glass bottle 6 packs. Took 10 of them home....

You dont have to tell me. I get a lot of stick for it as it is. Considering how much coke I eat, but on top of that...I eat...a LOT. It used to mainly be junk as well. I could eat a whole dominos large pizza for lunch, and be ready for another come dinner time. I was only semi active, nothing too crazy...and Ive been the same 28inch waist I was since I was 14. The things is though, just because I dont show it on the outisde...I know on the inside im probably rotting away! Which is why im trying to kick the coke, eating healthier, and exercising way more! Just to feel better all in all!

Its strange reading peoples experiences, as since I gave up coke I have completely lost my appetite! I eat a little and im full to the point my stomach is in pain for an hour afterwards! Hopefully this wont stay this way though! Not to mention the crazy insomnia Ive had...but IVe always had that I guess, just seems worse at the moment.

Thanks for the support guys!

Yup, coke is bad for you, I'm addicted aswell. Partially to the caffeine but, I just find water/juice/anything else no where near as refreshing as coke which makes it hard to switch to water. I felt better when I kicked it for about 6 months, then I slowly started drinking it again.

It doesn't help that I suffer from migranes, so trying to get off caffeine with the headaches withdrawal induces which tends to induce a skull splitting migrane isn't great.

AS for insomnia and appetite, cutting out that many empty carb calories will do that to you.

Firstly if you take a huge load of carbs, the associated "crash" in sugar levels will make you feel tired, which obviously with good timing can get your body wanting to go to sleep more easily. With appetite, same thing, drink, high sugar level, insulin kicks into overdrive, sugar levels drop hard, and you get hungry. More stable blood sugar levels almost always mean you'll have a much lower appetite.
