Addicted to Coca Cola...

Harmless is going a bit far. Its been tagged as fit for human consumption. That doesn't mean harmless. Like anything there are enough reports of side effects. Most people are fine with it but it does have an effect on some.

The studies that have been performed show coke is not in any way harmful when consumed at normal levels.

I have no doubt of that. However my brother gets a headache every time he has anything with aspartame in it. That includes squash and anything else. He isn't the only one. I'm not suggesting that it makes your brain fall out or anything like some of the stories.

Do you save the Coke Zone points? One time they had a 40" Sony TV available for 2500 points. I have just over 1400. Which isn't bad seen as the last time they had Xbox 360s on they were 800 points each.

I'm waiting for something good to show up on there again. :)

I'm surprised at the amount of people with a coca cola addiction of some kind, I do enjoy it occasionally but find that it's too sickly to drink lots of. Probably drink fizzy drinks a couple of times a month.

I wouldn't say addiction more like a habit.

Stopping drinking it is very easy.

I used to have a can every day, not as much as some.

Managed to stop drinking it quite easily. Although a meal just seems complete with a can of coke :(

I think I need to cut down having about a can a day :o (of coke zero).

Also, pepsi max tastes better. Discuss.

One can a day? Thats nothing at all. I usually have at least that much myself. Have a can with my dinner and usually have another while I'm doing stuff online. On my days off I can drink upto 4 or 5 cans depending on what I'm doing.

One can a day isnt going to do you any real harm.

How exactly does it make you feel better when you stop drinking it, after drinking lots. For long period of time ofc

Diet pop contains phosphoric acid. Flooding the body with an acidic beverage results in the leeching of many good alkaline minerals (e.g. Calcium) in order to restore a neutral pH level in the body; your body must retain this balance or you'd die.

Also leeched by the body, to restore its pH level when you drink diet pop, is Iodine, which supports the health of the thyroid gland. Your thyroid regulates your body's metabolism.

Without Iodine, the thyroid can't work properly - an underproducing thyroid will make you sluggish and prompt weight gain.

So, diet drinks don't necessarily having the weight loss effect you might think. Stick to council pop!

The caffeine has a fairly large effect on the body if taken in large amounts. I would think that it is mostly the effects of caffeine people are feeling. Blood glucose / insulin spikes likely have a part to play too for non-diet drinkers. In 'normal' amounts giving it up likely doesn't have too much of an effect, but for people drinking a litre or more I'd say you might feel the difference.

I class myself as fairly caffeine addicted, I just swapped diet coke for coffee to remove the acid. I'm planning on buying decaf and weaning myself off caffeine a bit. Drinking decaf after 4pm say for a while. My blood pressure is up, and will need treatment if it stays up next checkup. Doctor said lowering caffeine intake should help with it.

Coke has hardly any caffeine in it, like 30mg in a can. Even if you drank a litre a day it wouldn't have any effects.

I'll have to take your word for it. I couldn't really find any source I would trust on how much caffine is 'too much', well I could find out the lethal dose / KG but nobody can consume that without having pure caffeine or taking millions of caffeine pills.

So mostly it is placebo people feeling better stopping drinking it?

Im assuming, its not just the caffeine, but that there are 100 stupidly bad things for you in coke, all affecting the body in some way or another. Therefore, its the lack of these I think (and hope) that help with the over all, better feeling.

Yeah, I've just done a bit more googling. To get over the guideline max amount you'd need at least 6 litres of diet coke, and amount 7-8 litres of coke zero / normal stuff. I'm guessing the sugar spike, then low likely has a big impact but I don't know as I only ever drank diet stuff. Coke has much less caffeine than I'd thought, I had in my mind it was similar to the levels found in instant coffee, but it is in fact a bit less. I should know not to trust memory and to check by now ;) Having said that there isn't an official max caffeine intake, 700 mg seems to be what most say is max but who knows what research says that?
