Adding 144hz monitor to 60hz monitor for dual screens

Hi, so I'm hoping to upgrade my 7950 to a GTX 970 soon(ish) and would also like a 144hz monitor. I already have a 60hz monitor and would like to run both. I would only game on 1 screen (the 144hz one!) but wanted to know if it would be limited to 60hz even though I'd only be gaming on the faster screen?

Can't really speak for Nvidia, but my AMD can support multiple monitors on multiple refresh rates.

I have a 1440p desktop monitor at 60hz and a Plasma TV screen at 60hz which sometimes switches down to 24hz for 3D and it doesn't affect the 1440p monitor at all.

Yes, nvidia also support multiple refresh rates on desktop, it is actually built in to windows

So could I actually game on both monitors at once with one at 144hz and the other on 60hz? I probably wouldn't but just out of interest!

I don't have two monitors, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't game on them both if you turn vsync off. Try it and see.

It'll work fine, or at least it did with my GTX 670. I've often played games on my main monitor (HD, 120Hz) while watching TV programmes on the other monitor (HD, 60Hz).

Did you check that the 120hz monitor was still set to 120hz? Not sure how you'd check, guessing you can do it in display settings in windows.

Yes, it stays set at 120Hz - not only is it smooth as silk, but, for example, in-game with Diablo 3 with vsync on you'll see 120fps displayed.

Ok thanks. It's just I've read in some cases it automatically changes the 120hz+ monitor to 60hz to match the other. Maybe that could be because they're using older cards?
