I have 8gb of ram (2×4) in channel 1 of my motherboard. Is it possible to add another 16gb (2×8) in channel 2 to bring it to 24gb or will there be issues?

Would it be smarter to just buy another 8gb (2×4) and settle with 16gb?

Or go the whole hog and bin the old ram and get a full 32gb?

I'm confused as to compatibility. Any help is much appreciated

What do you do to warrant the large amount of RAM? 8gb is enough for 99% of things. 16GB will be overkill for many things (I have 16GB, for future porrifng, you know :p) and 24GB/32GB will just be a waste (imo).

If you really want to upgrade, get 2x8GB, if possible the same make/brand (i.e. same frequency, timings etc.)

I'd stick to pairs if I were you, 4x4GB for 16GB with same speed and timings or 4x8GB for 32GB

Unless you are doing a lot of multitasking 32GB is maybe a bit overkill
