Hi all

I currently have a atmos setup using a Marantz sr7010. The speaker config is 7.1.2, I wanna add 2 back atmos modules for 7.1.4. I know I need a extra amp to power 2 extra speakers but have no idea how to wire everything up and if audessy will work. Can someone explain how to go about and also recommend an amp.

If I read it right - no idea if the 7010 can do this for certain, I'd check your instructions or if someone can confirm this - I think you can assign the channels for each speaker with this receiver. So you could power the Front Right/Left/Centre speakers with a power amp to improve the sound. A dedicated Marantz power amp to match up isn't cheap new though.

If it can do this & I was in your shoes, I would get a 2nd hand 2 channel off the auction site to see if it can power said front speakers of height speakers. If you still have an old AV receiver lying around with 5.1 Analogue inputs, use that as a power amp.

If. A dedicated Marantz power amp to match up isn't cheap new though.

You don't need to match brands, although same brand/range would offer the same gain / voltage input, and "same sound" if you think amps sound the same.

Marantz don't make three channel power amplifiers

That 5 channel is £900, that isn't bad. But they don't seem that great compared to the big league power amp makers. Also once you get a power amp, then a avr is a bit pointless so you probably want to change the avr to a marantz avr pre

/\/\/\ Agreed on matching brands. I'm not aware that anyone makes a 3 channel power amp unless its a small brand I've not heard of before. I think £900 is a bit steep just to add 2 atmos channels when the 7010 may have cost around the 1k mark. Not when you could pick up a 2nd hand Rotel power amp off the auction site for around the hundred quid mark for example

No problem with miss matching brands I've got Lexicon AVE pre with audiolab amps then now ATI amps.
