Just down the road
Hi guys,

I am thinking of buying a gigabit switch to add to my network. I have a netgear dg834gt flashed with the latest dgteam firmware - this is a 100mbit device. If I buy I gigabit switch, and attach the router to it and some gigabit devices, will I get gigabit speeds between the gigabit devices whilst getting internet via the router, or will I be limited to the 100mbit of the router? I think I will get gigabit but I just want to be sure!

Thanks

G.

Yes, as long as the device is connected to the gigabit switch it will be connected at gigabit speeds providing you are using at least cat5e cable and the clients have gigabit network cards.

as above - yes.

I have a server, main pc and small htpc all running at gigabit connections between them but connected to the switch is my sky router that is only 100mb but doesn't affect the gigabit devices.

Was thinking of doing this myself as all in one gigabit modem routers are too expensive. So its just a case of connecting the switch to modem ie, Internet-Router-Switch-(PS3, PC etc)
