I didnt know whetehr this was better here or in cars forum, but figured its a general sort of question?

I read that while i am having lessons i can practise on the road if im with someone who has a license and i am added to their insurance. I had been given the impression that this was only a few pounds extra.

Tried to get a quote through compare the market, and suddenly the insurance jumped up by an extra £1500 by adding me with my provisional.

Is this right? or did we do somethign wrong?

Pretty shocked tbh!

sounds right to me. to add me to my dads 2L mondeo for 3 months would have been £2000.

this wont help you one bit, but with my dad being a driving instructor not only do i get free driving lessons, but i also have a car that i can drive as long as he is in the passenger seat without paying any insurance :D

oh! i was hoping we had somehow spazzed it up and it would actualy be cheap!

when we told my bf;s dad his response was "yes, i wanted to add chris to my insurance so he could have a go in my car and they wanted £150! thats over £10 a month!!"

we pointed out they wanted £150 extra a month for me and he stopped! :D

last year it cost me 20 pounds to put my girlfriend on as a provisinal on my vectra diesel. When i sorted my renewal out i took her off this year and they knocked 110 quid off my quote. Shes 24 if that helps.

I'm almost 36, my wife a year older.
She holds a provisional license.
Adding her to my insurance actually reduces my premium, and this is on my Octy vRS - the female effect.

I'm assuming you are male and that tends to up the premium rather than reduce.
