Hi all, I have an intranet site and was wondering if there is any easy (ideally free ) search function I can add to it.

Thanks in advance!

there are a couple of opensource search engines that might work, try http://www.searchtools.com/tools/tools-opensource.html for a list. If your on a windows platform microsoft's search system could be used.

If your company (I assume its a company intranet) is serious about its intranet investment, have a look at the Google Mini. Not cheap (cheaper than most of the other enterprise search solutions), but I swear by them. A really neat solution, and its bluuuee :D

google mini sounds decent. Although something just hit my head. we'd have to make it available offline too :(. As I produce CDs with info so it could search the info on the CD's offline intranet :S

Take a serious look at the "Zoom Search Engine" from Wrensoft.
www.wrensoft.com

I use it on my own site, you can also use it for Intanet's, CD's, DVD's.
They do a totally free version which will index 50 pages/15k words.
They then do 3 pay for versions depending on how big your site is - how many pages you want indexing etc.

Excellent product and really easy to use.
