Hi there,

At home I have the following setup, please see my signature. I'm a software developer and would would like to add a second monitor to complement my Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24".

At present my Nvidia 280 GTX 1024MB graphics card has one DVI out going to my Dell 2408WFP and the other going to my projector via a DVI HDMI adapter (with the Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver in between).

Now how should I add a second monitor?

At work my computer runs 3 monitors off 1 x Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 which has two Y monitor cables.

I don't know how Y cables work. Can I purchase and use Y cables with my card and how do they work? with my work setup they are all independent monitors but perhaps the Quadro NVS 440 is designed to support this or the cables are specially built for this purpose. Can someone enlighten me on the technology?

Am I right to go down the Y cable route or do I need to consider getting a second graphics card? as I may want to eventually emulate my work setup and have 3 monitors + projector.

Thanks, m.
