I have a Netgear DG834GT ADSL Router.

This has Wireless capability but it doesnt reach the other end of the house very effectively.

I happen to have an older Belkin G Wireless Access Point (model #F5D7130) that I used with my old router (that didnt have wireless).

Looking at the instructions on the Belkin AP, it shows how to use it as a 'range extender', but they explain specifically how to set it up to do this when the Router is also a Belkin device.

Should it work with a Netgear? Is there anything special one has to do? The manual goes on about allowing MAC addresses, but I dont see how thaty applies if you arent filtering MAC addresses.

Is it just a question of matching the channel, SSID and pre-shared key (WPA)?

Thanks in advance :)

Matching the channel, SSID and key should be enough to extend the wireless range - tho I think you lose some speed.

Thanks for your reply. Yup that worked.

Only problem now is that at the other end of the house the AP cant reach the router either, so I just succesfully created a WiFi network with an iPhone an iPod and the AP and no access to anything else :)

For it to work I have to put the AP somewhere in between so it can see the router, which means the corridor, where my daughter can break it and the wife doesnt want it.

I guess I was hoping that the AP could receive the router's signal better than the iPod/iPhone.

Sounds like a job of powerline adapters to bridge between the routers... tho could get messy and be complicated to setup.
