Right, following from my previous thread, I have decided the cheapest and easiest way to go with basic soundproofing is to double skin some plasterboard over my old plasterboard. As I live in a flat, the scope for upgrading is very limited, so I have decided to go for 2 layers of acoustic plasterboard 15mm (most likely British Gypsum Gyproc Soundbloc) using Green Glue as sealant.
This is what I'm thinking
Any thoughts on this? I can't upgrade the plasterboard/stud wall unfortunately due to the building regulations and pipework/electrics behind the wall, but I think this solution will block some of the sound out; enough at least for me to relax.
This is what I'm thinking
- Adding the first layer of plasterboard to the wall with plasterboard adhesive.
- Sealing all edges and gaps with Green Glue sealant.
- Applying Green Glue adhesive to the second layer of plasterboard and sticking to 1st layer.
- Sealing all gaps with GG sealant
