Adding an SPDIF output by using Mobo pins?

Hi all,

I was thinking of adding an SPDIF output connector to an old computer, by adding a Phono socket to a rear PCI blanking plate, and wiring it up to the SPDIF digital output pins on an old Gigabyte motherboard.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the pins labelled initials stand for?

Pin 1 VCC
Pin 2 No pin
Pin 3 SPDIF
Pin 4 NC
Pin 5 GND
Pin 6 GND

Now apparently there is an optional SPDIF cable for this which can be purchased from a Gigabyte dealer, but I know of nowhere that sells such.

I was intending on using Pin 3 as the + and Pin 5 as the negative for connection via a short length of 75ohm cable to a rear mounted chassis phono socket. Does this sound correct? what do the other pins get used for?

Anyone know if this is correct or if it will work OK

Thanks,

Alawys better to be sure about these things.

Looks like my initial thoughts were correct then with pin 3 positive and pin 5 negative.

Though reading one of those links, it seems a optic-co-ax output backplate is what this output is intended for, anyone know where such a Gigabyte specific backplate can be bought?
