Hello

Just a quick question to clear my mind about this, I have 4GB DDR3 XMS3 1600 RAM currently, A friend is going to sell me some Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 pretty cheap, i was going to add them alongside my XMS3's, my motherboard is dual channel so i will be filling the last 2 slots up.

The timings for the tracers are: CL8 8-8-8-24
The timings for my XMS3 are: 9-9-9-24

Will i need to alter the timings on the tracers in the BIOS for them to run together? for me to achieve 8GB in total

Regards

I would imagine when you put the crucial in it will run all the sticks at whatever is preset in the bios so it will run with the XMS timings of 9-9-9-24.

The problem is they are not really matching pairs so u need to test first and get some advice on that i think.

As above - but if the memory settings default to 1333 settings after install set all 4 sticks to:

  • 1600MHz Frequency
  • 9 9 9 24 timings to match the XMS3
  • 2T Command rate
  • sub 1.58V if possible

Thanks lads, so they will definitely run together then, I'm only buying the tracers for the pretty blue chasing lights :D plus another 4gb would be nice.
