Adding another 6gb memory to OC'ed pre-built OCUK system

Hi guys,

I bought the Ultima Viper about 6 months or so ago when my last system went kaput!
I was thinking i'd get some more RAM (Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel) whilst it was dirt cheap on the weekly offer here.

Will I need to change any memory settings to accomodate the additional 6gb? RAM timings etc was always a weak area for me...

You need to return everything to stock speeds, as the extra RAM sticks will strain the memory controller more, causing a reduced CPU overclock.

Just make sure all the RAM timings are matched between the old and new RAM sticks and you should be fine.

When you say 'everything' though, do you mean memory settings, or the OC for the whole system?

You'll have to basically re-overclock yourself, as it will no doubt need different settings when using more memory. Plus you may also not get the same level of overclock with the increased stress on the memory controller.

Everything although the GPU overclock can be left as it is.

If i were you i would sell your current ram and add 3 x 4gb instead of having 6 x 2gb modules.
