I have my own car and own insurance. If i become a named driver on someone elses insurance to bring down their insurance by a bit and I will also drive their car every now and then. (I have cover already on my insurance to drive other cars TP). Will adding myself to someone's insurance affect me in anyway with regards to my insurance, when i come to renew my insurance on my own car?
Thanks in advance guys :)

I can't quite see how adding another driver to someone else's insurance would bring theirs down unless you stated that you (as an older and/or more experienced driver) were the most frequent driver; in which case I would have thought that you might potentially risk their cover

Its well known that adding an additional driver in a lower risk bracket lowers a premium. The norm is to add parents as additional drivers

i don't know why but adding myself as a named driver (not the main driver) brought the insurance premium down by £100

Bizarre

I'll give it a go on GoCompare & Confused.com :)

Not really, they make the assumption that named drivers will be driving the car - and when the low risk named drivers are driving, the high risk main driver cant be, thus lowering the overall risk. It's not as significant as fronting (being a main driver but insured as a named driver) but is also perfectly legal :)

It's common knowledge, there's a chance that you won't be driving the car 100% of the time, so less likely to be in a crash... or something like that.

Who cares, it saves me money :D
