Adding CGI to videos

What sort of CGI are you considering? Special effects? Total CGI?

I haven't used it and it is not the easiest software. But Blender is a 3D graphical editor which also has video editing capabilities. It is open source so it's free. I'm pretty sure there is a Windows and Linux version.

Then agreed on blender, it's free and there are tonnes of tutorials to get you up to speed with using it. Obviously the learning curve for this is quite high as you're combining 3d modelling, lighting, animation and film editing skill sets.
